Speaker Instructions
Presenting at the PHL Congress? We can’t wait to hear what expert knowledge you have to share! Follow the guidelines and best practices below to ensure you have a successful experience in Rome.

Keynote Speakers
Keynote presentations will last for 30 minutes and take place in the Auditorium Antonianum main auditorium and San Francesco Room (link). Presentations will be formal. There will be no Q&A.

Technical capacity: Computers, projector screens, and a microphone will be provided. Authors should create presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. While Internet access is provided at the Congress, we ask that you bring your presentation on the USB drive (flash drive) in case of Internet difficulties. We recommend you have a backup storage device in case you experience any issues with the first.

Set up: Authors should arrive to their session at least 15 minutes early to load presentations.

Oral Presentation
Oral sessions will take place in the Auditorium Antonianum main auditorium and San Francesco Room. Each presenter will be introduced at the beginning of the session by the Session Chair. Presentations will be formal and last for 15 minutes total per presenter - 12 minutes for presentation, 3 minutes for Q&A. We recommend you limit your presentation to 10-12 minutes to leave sufficient time to interact with the audience.

Poster Presentations
Poster sessions will last for 60 minutes and take place in the Auditorium Antonianum left and right foyers. Each presenter will be introduced at the beginning of the session by the Session Chair. Participants will be able to engage in individual conversation with presenters and visit multiple posters. A 2 m by 1 m board will be provided to hang your poster. Push pins will be provided to affix poster boards. You are encouraged to bring small handout materials to distribute to participants should you desire. Tabletops will not be provided.

Dimensions: Final printed poster size should be maximum 3 foot by 3 foot (90 cm by 90 cm).

Design: Posters should be printed in color and text should be kept as short as possible and avoid long paragraphs. Any text should be easily read from a distance of 5-6 feet. A bold typeface should be used for headings (introduction, objectives, methods, results, conclusion, etc.).

Authors can choose any font type and size. We recommend:

  • Title: Arial Black 54-60 point
  • Headings: Arial Black 44-48 point (black)
  • Body Text: Arial 28 to 40 point depending on amount (black)
  • Tables and Figures: Minimum 20 point for text (legends, axis titles etc.)

Set up: Authors must set up their posters 30 minutes before their session begins. Should you have any issues during the event, please contact your Session Chair. If you must pre-ship your poster, please contact phlcongress.illinois.edu.
